First Listen: Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.

woah. brother broccoli starts 2023 with something totally unexpected: a psychedelic rock album. lil yachty said in an interview (with someone i don't remember) that he just wants to be taken seriously, as a musician. it's a little sad when someone puts their all into a craft, sometimes even create a groundbreaking sound, but still get termed the bare minimum or worse, "mumble rapper." while this album is beautiful, it's not as stellar as other projects in the same genre. but music is more than that. it's also the process, emotions, message, etc. brother broccoli took a risk to make what he wants/feels and he succeeded. that's what makes this album a beauty asides the wonky ai art and trying-hard-to-stay-in-the-flow lyricism . the features ate. the producers brought their a-game. the engineers blessed the record. since poland, it's clear that yachty decided to broaden his scope and make not just music he loves, but quality. i definitely respect his art

First Listen: SZA - SOS

much like Kendrick Lamar with Mr Morale & The Big Steppers , SOS is several things. underwhelming being one. the twenty three song album is not what you expect of an artiste that's been away from the solo scene for five years. note: is it a bad album? no. so does it possess the dawg? sadly, no. SOS is that album with a poorly mixed intro, forgettable songs, i-will-need-more-listens, and (of course) a few songs that are actually GREAT ! we all know the theme of the album but one of the reason it fails might be because too much is happening. one minute it's rnb/soul, next minute it's (t)rap. i mean... F2F is rock ffs. there's also lyricsm that reminds us of kdot. coincidence? it's definitely not an album i'll be spinning often but hopefully a couple listens changes my opinion . & just so we're clear, CTRL is the better album and Phoebe Bridgers is amazing!

Never Gunna Be the Same (Album Review)

If you're an avid listener of alté and afro music genre, "Tomi Agape" shouldn't be a strange name. She's a UK based artiste and has notable collaborations - LadiPOE, Nonso Amadi, Cruel Santino - to her name. Towards the end of what has been called a difficult year, Tomi and her team released Never Gunna Be the Same . It's an 8 track album with production touches from experts like Juls and Le Mav. Never Gunna Be the Same is a love (or lust) themed project, and the idea of an RnB theme infusing with Afro-Pop beats - for an entire album? - is exhilarating. It's something that only a few people excel at and Tomi executes it... BUT not perfectly.  One Call Away and Lovers Rock are two songs Tomi could have done better on; they sound exquisite nevertheless. Give It To Me is a raunchy take that ironically sounds uneventful. It's easily the lowest song, and 8 tracks/2 = 4 = Track 4 = mid. From the 5th track till the last, the songs are very enjoyable. In

JORJA SMITH: LOST & FOUND

Jorja Smith is an amazing artist i got introduced to in school and ever since i heard her album Lost and Found,i became a massive fan of hers. Now, lets talk about Jorja, why do i like her? why is she special? well, besides her voice sounding like a hybrid mix of Sia and Rihanna(Try to imagine hearing that, sounds great in your head right?),she also has well thought out lyrics and has a stellar sound that is very soothing to listen to.  Jorja doesn't just slack around because she has an amazing voice, that's not just it, her music is extremely deep and it easily connects you to a whole bunch of emotions. In an era where music as an art form is diminishing in quality, Jorja manages to be one of those few artists who understands the origin of their genre and only improve on it instead of making it hard to listen to all in the name of "experimenting". Jorja Smith's music genre is a mix of contemporary RnB,Soul and Pop.  Having only two major proj

GLORY SOUND PREP: JON COMES CLEAN

As I type this am almost done listening to Glory Sound Prep so I wanted to talk about what I could gather from the eight songs I ’ve listened to so far. First of,this album feels like a mix-tape, it’s not trying to be over the top or mind blowing, It’s just Jon trying to pass a message and I get it. Granted, coming of the Human Condition I really wanted him to go big again but it’s all good….I think. Maybe it’s just me(a fan) expecting a lot from him and that is one of the many things he doesn’t want at this point in his life and maybe that’s okay. Glory Sound Prep is a really cool listen, with this paragraph am at track nine so let me just come out clean,my expectations are bloody high for the tenth and final track. I mean, it’s bloody 8 minutes long, He wouldn’t make something that long if he didn’t want to pull the rug from under my legs and blow my mind, right? I really think he’s tired because, after his last project he was b

J.Cole- KOD

Alright so J.Cole finally dropped KOD and although it's only been a couple of hours,I've listened to it and I want to talk about it. Now this isn't a "review",it's a first listen reaction. Just like 4Youreyezonly,at first listen this isn't really crazy like that but it's very very good. I won't completely praise my Idol,I'll have to be very honest with y'all about this.    Okay now so here's a couple of things I didn't like. For one,a lot of songs were short like 3minutes or so. When I noticed I was kind of pissed but I understood what he was doing. The whole concept of this album from my interpretation at least was trying to use " Trap Style " to pass positive messages.   If you listen or if you've listened already you'd notice that, most of the songs have this trap vibe and Cole's alter ego kiLL edward is kind of the trap version of Jermaine and his flow was very trappy. Jermaine himse

So far

Why is J. Cole Underappreciated?

If you're a big hop hop fan right now, there's one thing that is given any time top three of this generation are mentioned the names that pop into our head are; • J. Cole •Kendrick Lamar •Drake       I am 100% in support of the first two as easily the greatest rappers of this generation. I do not agree with Drake because he's not as good as he used to be, usually people would say "he's gone soft" but I say he's gone pop.    Now Kendrick Lamar and Drake have been well carried by the media and have been recognized with awards by the Grammy's but why hasn't J. Cole been recognized?. I am a massive J. Cole fan(he's my favorite artist) and I know he left the limelight to live a "realer" life with his family and the people he loves most and even with lack of publicity and promotion, he manages to still make double platinum albums and he doesn't compromise his artistry for pop songs like drake. So why hasn't he
