JORJA SMITH: LOST & FOUND

Jorja Smith is an amazing artist i got introduced to in school and ever since i heard her album Lost and Found,i became a massive fan of hers. Now, lets talk about Jorja, why do i like her? why is she special? well, besides her voice sounding like a hybrid mix of Sia and Rihanna(Try to imagine hearing that, sounds great in your head right?),she also has well thought out lyrics and has a stellar sound that is very soothing to listen to.

Jorja doesn't just slack around because she has an amazing voice, that's not just it, her music is extremely deep and it easily connects you to a whole bunch of emotions. In an era where music as an art form is diminishing in quality, Jorja manages to be one of those few artists who understands the origin of their genre and only improve on it instead of making it hard to listen to all in the name of "experimenting". Jorja Smith's music genre is a mix of contemporary RnB,Soul and Pop.

Having only two major projects, Project 11 (mixtape-2016) and Lost & Found(album-2018). Today,i will be talking about the album Lost & Found which like the name suggests, is about her loosing and finding herself.  The album has no bad song honestly, every song has a meaningful message, great production and excellent vocals from Jorja herself. If you like RnB and you're a fan of actual lyrics in songs, this album is for you...no,scratch that every song with Jorja Smith is for you actually.

So, i thought i'd do a quick run down on each track from the album the best way i can:

1. "Lost & Found"
The album opener gets dialogue from Jorja about her searching for herself constantly and is backed up by an incredibly melody.

2 "Teenage Fantasy"

Teenage Fantasy questions the level of realness that teenage crushes or love truly have and how our youthful desires end up not being what we expected them to be. This track has a great instrumental and Jorja's unique voice makes the message all more real.

3 "Where Did I Go?"
Where did i go talks about drifting away from who you were or who you were supposed to be. This is a rough and rushed interpretation of the future classic song.

4 "February 3rd"
In an album this good, making a top five list is hard but not withstanding february 3rd is part of the top five tracks but that doesn't take anything from the other tracks. It has really great lyrics like this:"There's a life outside I didn't know
Tied up, falling down to an empty soul
And lord knows that this love has taken toll
I've given all of my love to this broken home"  and this "Did you notice that the feeling ain't never gone?
Did you notice it's the feeling you've been running from
You wouldn't notice if your eyes ain't falling for me
Did you open up my heart, just to take it from me".

Intermission: I really really feel tired typing so i'll try to skip a couple tracks and just put the remaining four on my top 5 in no particular order.

6 "The One"
This track tells the tale of the several sides of love and how hard it is to find the one without getting heartbroken and utterly disappointed and how it makes you end up shutting that warm place in your heart due to all the pain you've experienced.

7 "Wandering Romance"

Honestly speaking, at this point, i realize that music shouldn't be reviewed like this, it needs to be felt. This song in particular puts you in a specific state of mind and it hits home with lyrics like this:
"Would it be easier if I stayed at home?
Wasting my time on my own
And hoping that you'd come along
And, would you be honest, baby?
If I said the words "Do you love me?" for a moment
Or is this just wandering romance?
Tell me why you can't control
The feelings you desire
Burning on my bridges
As you said my world's on fire"

So,my eyes are giving up on me.  I mean, i am a lazy writer so sleep usually has its way with me and so instead of me to go a bit into the remaining two best songs for me, i'll just list them instead:

8 "Blue Lights"

Honorable Mention - 9 "Life Boats (Freestyle)", !! "Tomorrow"

10 "Goodbyes"

Sorry about going lazy on you guys, i'll make up for it, please try and listen to Jorja's songs especially this album, it's really chilled and meaningful! GOODNIGHT!

Happy Death Day (2017)

I don't like horror or the prospect of horror in any movie but this one genuinely was a welcomed surprise. Happy Death Day is that movie you've heard of but you don't know what it's about and you go in to watch it with low expectations. But,guess what? It turned out really good. Happy Death Day is about a college sorority girl who has to relive the day she got killed by a masked person and that day also happens to be her birthday and put it shortly,Happy Death Day uses the concept of the movie "Groundhog Day" but with more extreme extra miles and I have to give it to them,I'm impressed.     The movie starts of with Lory the main protagonist waking up in dorm room of Carter an awkward guy who she assumes she had sex with since she can't really remember what happened the night before because she was hung over. After a very awkward back and forth, she leaves his room and heads home to the sorority house. While she goes there, the movie show...

Collateral Beauty (2016)

I watched this film a day before new year and I loved it. In fact,I almost cried because Will Smith is a pro at what he does and the cast and story are just SO DAMN GOOD. I didn't want to post a review or say anything about this movie because it was a gem to me. So the other day I was thinking about how cool the movie was and I was like "yo,lemme go check out the ratings for this movie...was it Oscar nominated"?. And,Bam! I saw it got a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes..what the hell is wrong with critics? I mean no offense to Americans but sometimes Americans suck!. You people used to be so great but now you just shit on everything for no good reason and you use fancy words to justify your unnecessary hate, why?. You hear that critics? You nitpick about everything and I mean eeeeeveeerrrything. I literally read a review where someone said this film is just "oscar bait"...I know films like this get Oscar nominations but does that mean you'll ignore how good...

Samurai Champloo: Why Is It So Good?

In the year 2005, the anime community had one of their gems; Samurai Champloo come out. Its well written and set in an extremely lively version of old school (Edo) japan. Its storyline is simple, two extremely skilled yet very different swordsmen Mugen and Jin have fate bring them across a young outspoken lady Fuu who helps them out of a tough spot and insist on them accompany her to find the very vaguely named “samurai who smells of sunflowers”. This serves as the catalyst that carries us on a well voiced, animated, and extremely stylistic adventure across japan towards the course of its 20 plus episode run. Here are some of the reasons I think Samurai Champloo is so enjoyable   1. TONE AND SETTING: One of the reasons it works so well is that even with its fictional story, its grounded in reality without being overly dramatic or serious. Most films, shows and games based off old eras like this usually take themselves super serious and in the process turn out being bla...

I Truly Loved Wonder Woman 1984: An Honest Review

Wonder Woman 1984 is the sequel to 2017's Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins all returning in their respective duties with the first two as actors and Patty as the director once again.   Wonder Woman 1984 has only been out for a few days and within that time has been destroyed critically with people (including a couple of my friends) downright calling it horrible and a strong contender for worst movie of the year. While I'm not one to be swayed by the popular opinion of most critic reviews, seeing a couple of people whose tastes I respect speak ill of the film honestly made me scared and so I avoided watching it until today when I decided that I had to be brave and face my fear!   As seen by the trailers and  other promotional materials, Wonder Woman 1984 is set in the 80's, specifically, 1984, the film has the classic retro feel to it and unapologetically embraces it. Please note that while I will not be spoiling anything major, I may ...
