If you're an avid listener of alté and afro music genre, "Tomi Agape" shouldn't be a strange name. She's a UK based artiste and has notable collaborations - LadiPOE, Nonso Amadi, Cruel Santino - to her name.
Towards the end of what has been called a difficult year, Tomi and her team released Never Gunna Be the Same. It's an 8 track album with production touches from experts like Juls and Le Mav.
Never Gunna Be the Same is a love (or lust) themed project, and the idea of an RnB theme infusing with Afro-Pop beats - for an entire album? - is exhilarating. It's something that only a few people excel at and Tomi executes it... BUT not perfectly.
One Call Away and Lovers Rock are two songs Tomi could have done better on; they sound exquisite nevertheless. Give It To Me is a raunchy take that ironically sounds uneventful. It's easily the lowest song, and 8 tracks/2 = 4 = Track 4 = mid.
From the 5th track till the last, the songs are very enjoyable. In particular, the ones produced by Juls.
The beats/instrumentals per track sound amazing, so a shout out of some sorts to the producers. And the feature choices are perfect: 5Yffe's baritone, Amaarae and Boj's vocals.
It's a nice album and worthy of an 7.5/10.
