Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children)

Anime is one of the best mediums of story telling in recent years. It's diverse and offers a wide variety of genres, from comedy, action, thriller and romance. Most popular series are usually fast paced, exaggerated and action packed but, pretty much all the amazing anime films are usually grounded, slow and visually phenomenal and these are qualities this film taps into.

Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children) is honestly what great movies are all about. I remember seeing the trailer a few months back and I was so interested in seeing how it would play out, while I knew I was going to be in for an emotional roller coaster, I didn't quite expect it to start within the first thirty minutes of the film's screen time.

The film's premise from the trailer was pretty simple, a young optimistic female college student called Hana falls for a recluse, mysterious yet kind man after seeing him at one of her classes. She tails him and tries her best to befriend him, after they meet a couple of times and build a connection, he finally gains the confidence to tell her his secret; He's a wolf. The film's momentum is propelled by that piece of information and I was drawn into the world and invested in Hana and her struggles to somehow make the after effects of being with a wolf work.

This film has very very beautiful animation, they're so many gorgeous scenes that made me feel inspired, happy and sometimes very sad. It definitely made use of visual story telling as they are so many scenes where nothing is said but you just understand the context of it and connect to the scenes. The art style is quirky yet still has this bold presence. The character designs are simple yet aesthetically pleasing and all the major characters with speaking roles are very well written. It also has a beautiful musical score that elevates every scene with emotions and great voice acting.

I do not want to spoil anything but the name itself is a spoiler so keep an eye for that because, when you see how it plays out and it's development, you'll have moments where you'll smile at how adorable the idea is done, laugh at the scenarios and quite possibly tear up a bit at the end. A friend of mine brought this up and I think I agree, Hana is probably the best parent in anime history and her struggles and dedication is incredibly inspiring and great to watch.

This film is breath taking, funny, smart, human and just overall a great treat to experience. By the end of it all I was feeling very inspired about life and these days, we need stories like that, stories about moving forward even when the odds are clearly stacked against you. While it's not a new film, it is still one of the best films I watched this year and I had to recommend it to you guys before the year officially runs out today. So, endeavor to try and see it because you'll probably have a really good time although, I feel like a lot of people might find it boring.

The year's ending and so I wanted to give a shout out to both the random and dedicated readers of this blog as well as the writers since it is now a collective with other writers asides myself. I'm sure you'll get more posts in 2021! Once again, thank you for reading, this is MY last post of the year, have a wonderful day and Happy New Year In Advance

Samurai Champloo: Why Is It So Good?

In the year 2005, the anime community had one of their gems; Samurai Champloo come out. Its well written and set in an extremely lively version of old school (Edo) japan. Its storyline is simple, two extremely skilled yet very different swordsmen Mugen and Jin have fate bring them across a young outspoken lady Fuu who helps them out of a tough spot and insist on them accompany her to find the very vaguely named “samurai who smells of sunflowers”. This serves as the catalyst that carries us on a well voiced, animated, and extremely stylistic adventure across japan towards the course of its 20 plus episode run. Here are some of the reasons I think Samurai Champloo is so enjoyable   1. TONE AND SETTING: One of the reasons it works so well is that even with its fictional story, its grounded in reality without being overly dramatic or serious. Most films, shows and games based off old eras like this usually take themselves super serious and in the process turn out being bla...

First Listen: Hamond - Pirate Radio

since i heard  windows , i have been sloppy on Hamond.  Pirate Radio  is almost everything i imagine indie pop to be. it's glittery, experimental, vocal, and hard work. half the time, i don't even understand his poetry but it sounds so  damn good . the other half explores experiences of failed/failing relationships, problematic partners, and misplaced gaiety. storytelling like this always gets me into a frenzy, especially with fitting production.  the unconventional mix and production sets this art piece aside from the rest within its genre. especially the drums. nothing cliché with his lyrics or style of music. just pure, honest music that makes me bust some ass to his misfortune. 😀 mehn, it is definitely one of the better listens from 2022. give it a spin?

Rick and Morty Is Such A Great Show

So the third season of Rick and Morty just ended and I honestly don't know what to do with my life.... The jokes and details in this show are just incredible, and Rick says the most funniest and most amazing lines that sometimes get to real and the season finale basically made everything(except evil Morty) that happened all season pointless(the ending is a soft reboot, kinda). I'll be dropping a couple of spoilers from here so if you haven't seen the finale just bookmark this page and comeback when you have... For one turns out Beth didn't actually take the offer Rick gave her to leave without any consequences thereby ending suspicions fans had after the last episode. She thought she was a clone so she spent most of the episode thinking she actually took the deal and was the clon Rick made(honestly I thought she was) but apparently as it turned out,she wasn't.  She fled to Jerry for help(I know right?,dumb as hell! Why would you go to jerry for help ...

DC Rebirth Just Got Awesome-R

Yeah that's right I said awesome-R it's my new word.....okay so if you're a DC fan you'd know DC comics did a soft reboot on their comic universe with the *REBIRTH* line and so far it's been great...I haven't red much of it but I know a bit...it starts with a new world where most of our heroes don't know each other due to the fact a being is lowkey messing with reality for reasons unknown...Wally West(the white one) is the opener of rebirth he basically goes round the DC universe trying to be remembered...even his wife forgot him.He has been trapped in the speed force since the *New 52* so he needs to be remembered so as to escape after trials and errors Barry remembers him and he explains to Barry that their world has changed and about 10+ years of their lives has been erased. Fast forward to the Rebirth's comic special titled "the button" we learn more about the button that the new reality creator(coughs! Dr Manhattan) create...
