Soul: Jazz and Life's Beauty

Soul is the latest addition to Pixar's animated film line up and I must say, it's truly an interesting watch that needs digestion.

Soul like any other Pixar animated film builds upon already existing conceptual ideas and adds a relatable human feel to it. I do not want to be that guy but I feel like this is the second really conceptual focused film I've seen this year with Tenet being the first and while both have very great ideas, I think this film definitely fully realized it's ideas rather than overdoing and falling flat. Now, back to this film.

Soul tells the story of a sad middle aged pianist named Joe Gardner (played excellently by the talented Jamie Foxx) who aspires to play in jazz clubs and make music for the rest of his life as it is his "purpose" in life. Joe struggles with trying to make a big break as a musician as well as trying to inspire teaching students of a school as a part time music teacher. That sounds rather simple but something happens at a crucial moment in his life where he has a near death experience and appears in transit between life and death.

This doesn't sound like a new concept yes, but Pixar definitely brought a spin into it as Joe finds away to escape from being sent to the other side by instead going to section where unborn babies souls are prepared for their birth on Earth. There, Joe stumbles unto godlike beings who go by "Jerry"(and one Terry) and they link him up with a pessimistic child soul called "22" who doesn't want to go to earth, they find out they share a mutualistic goal which sets them on a life changing journey of self discovery.

I love how this film tried extremely hard in depicting the little things that make us the humans we are. Every character with a speaking role feels like a regular relatable human being and it also handles black characters extremely well because there are a couple of great moments with one being in a barber shop. The jokes land, the writing is done really well and feels natural, the story is touching and doesn't feel  convoluted or boring in any way. The cast is great and I found myself caring for all these characters to some degree with my favorites being the two main ones, Joe and 22.

I think Soul displays an exciting future for Pixar films and I'm really excited to see what they do next because this entry to their filmography was quite refreshing and enjoyable. Also, I know there's a lot of complaining of POC Disney characters not fully appearing as themselves in films and while I think that happens here, I think it works for the story and there's a significant amount of screen time for Regular Joe here to enjoy and appreciate.

I'm not really into giving films scores but I'll try that today and give this film an 8/10, I think it has great replay value and could be another Pixar classic along greats like Toy Story, Wall E and Up!

DAREDEVIL SEASON 3: An Immersive Masterpiece

Marvel ’s daredevil is back and honestly there is only one word that can be used to describe the thirteen episode brilliance that is season 3 and that word is…..wow. Honestly speaking, this season is more of a direct sequel to season 1 than season 2 was which makes perfect sense because, season 2 was basically a backdoor pilot  for the Defenders and The Punisher. In fact, I can say that if you do not watch season 2 of daredevil you wouldn’t really be confused because, most of the issues being faced here are mostly from where season 1 left off. Please know that my previous statement does not in any way mean season 2 of Daredevil was bad,it was great. My only real issue was that the show trying so hard to make the hand feel like this unstoppable force. I think that was pointless because, it didn’t pay off ...

First Listen: SZA - SOS

much like Kendrick Lamar with Mr Morale & The Big Steppers , SOS is several things. underwhelming being one. the twenty three song album is not what you expect of an artiste that's been away from the solo scene for five years. note: is it a bad album? no. so does it possess the dawg? sadly, no. SOS is that album with a poorly mixed intro, forgettable songs, i-will-need-more-listens, and (of course) a few songs that are actually GREAT ! we all know the theme of the album but one of the reason it fails might be because too much is happening. one minute it's rnb/soul, next minute it's (t)rap. i mean... F2F is rock ffs. there's also lyricsm that reminds us of kdot. coincidence? it's definitely not an album i'll be spinning often but hopefully a couple listens changes my opinion . & just so we're clear, CTRL is the better album and Phoebe Bridgers is amazing!

One Piece Chapter 1000! Discussion!!!

One Piece is a massive manga series created by the famous talented mangaka Eiichiro Oda. It has managed to keep going for 20 years and while it appears to be in it's final arcs, the series still has a couple of years left for it till its finale.     One Piece hit it's 1000th chapter mark this week albeit unofficially because it's slated for an official release of January, 2021. With that being said, if you're an anime only or simply do not want to know anything till the official release comes out, you can stop reading now because, I will be discussing the whole chapter and what my thoughts are for the future going on from here. The 1000th chapter is deservingly named "Strawhat Luffy" I like that it's called this for obvious reasons such as Luffy being the main character of the whole thing and getting to see him now compared to where he was when he set out for the sea two years ago (well, 20 years in our time).     Resuming immediately from wher...

The Star Wars Prequels are Better Than The Original Trilogy(Sue Me)

Ho,Jo,jalapeño (I don't know what that means but it rhymes) Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates Christmas! It's Barney here, and today has been a shitty Christmas for me. I tried being a vegetarian but I couldn't because I was tempted bye chicken(damn you chicken!) And so I decided to make a post on why I like, and prefer the SW prequels to the originals.(disclaimer: please note that what am about to say might be rubbish due to the fact that I'm bored or it might actually make sense so,please don't take it personally).      I didn't grow up with the Original Trilogy so I don't have the whole "Nostalgic Bias" that all the "real" and "original" star wars fans have. I personally feel the OT had very cliché and laughable moments because it didn't age well and I find it funny how the Star Wars Purists ignore that fact and put the original trilogy on such a high pedestal. I mean,Obi-Wan's and Darth Vader'...
