KOE NO KATACHI: A REVIEW?

Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice) is a 2016 Japanese [obviously] animated film written by Reiko Yoshida and directed by Naoko Yamada. The film is based on the manga of the same name, written by the great Yoshitoki ÅŒima. I just want to talk type about this beautiful anime; don't think of this as some sort of review.
P.S.: Little spoilers here and there.

It starts off with Ishida - who'd later be the main male character - trying to commit suicide. And may I say... the musical build-up to the point where he is to jump off the bridge... SUBARASHI! It's utterly gorgeous [for the lack of a befitting word]. It's not over done with sad sounds or large synths. It's almost inaudible, gentle; it's the kind of music that would play in the head of a sad or depressed person.

And it is explained in detail - his dilemma.

The movie's title makes sense because of Nishimiya. She's deaf. In middle school, she's a victim of bullying from her classmates in form of ignorance, isolation, silence, and more.
The worst thing to bully a deaf person with is silence.

The movie, basically, is about the lives of Ishida and Nishimiya. One was once a bully and now suffers depression, the other is deaf and suffers depression. The plot opens the audience - you and I - to the communication problems in today's world and the stigma that's associated with disabled people. It's very "real"... in the sense that many animes that explore this field/genre tend to over-do or under-do but this one sits just right. The emotions are balanced and the unnecessary is avoided.

The movie tackles a lot of things: social anxiety, depression, suicide, bullying, anger, pity, 2020, etc. It's a lot that simmer well and a few things that do not. My first problem is the character development. It's nothing too serious but a lot more could've should've been done. The red haired guy just popped out of nowhere and he's an equally important character as the rest of Ishida's friends? Boo!

Red haired guy😂

I'd like to think that bully cases are not handled by Japanese schools as portrayed in this movie. From the look of things, the teacher was aware that Nishimiya was being bullied but he did nothing? He said nothing till her parent complained and changed Nishimiya's school? Boo!

I think the music is amazing. It's not the regular J-Pop but exciting sounds that I believe any lover of proper music would appreciate. The animation is very sharp and beautiful, as one would expect from Kyoto Studios. The movie keeps one interested and it has tons of moments that are screenshot worthy.

You should see it if you haven't.

It's a strong 8 from me.

  1. Now I have to add this movie to my list. About the teacher being aware of the bullying, I think Teachers asking a Bully to desist from bullying students only ends up with the students facing more bullying from the bullying, teacher interfering kinds of points a spotlight on the student

    1. I thought I'd replied. 💀
A teacher is in a position of authority and as such something should be done. The school could have suspended Ishida and I see that as a bare minimum. I hope you enjoy the movie.

Who Would Win? Batman Vs Spiderman

Okay before I start I'd like you all to know I am not being partial in any way at all. I had this argument with my friend Andrea a couple of days back and now I feel like sharing on who I think would win,but I realised they are two perspective 1-choosing a winner based on accomplishment 2-choosing a winner based on powers or strengths 1- this perspective is basically saying "oh look at this let's check out both characters accomplishments",they both have taken down a large amount of enemies ranging from smart villains to dumb ones, they've both faced foes that are big and strong. So it's only reasonable to think Batman would win here, not by a long shot though because Spiderman is a force to be reckoned with. Batman has basically done more important things,he has defeated Superman severally, dodged darkseid's omega beams, outsmarted braniac,I mean the man is a bit fluent in kryptonian and he knows several martial art skills and he's just a human......

IT(2017):Lazy Review

I've been stuck thinking about what to post and I got nothing. But I remembered that I watched "IT" late December and I wasn't scared surprisingly. I mean, they were a couple of jump scares but overall nothing really scared me. It was a fun movie though and I see why it got a sequel announced and universal praise. It's based of the first chapter of the Stephen King novel of the same name and I have read a couple of pages from  the book but I haven't finished it because I'm lazy and I procrastinate a lot(I haven't still finished reading a song of ice and fire).   Set in the '90-somethings(I'm lazy don't eat me) in a town of something, something(I know, you're disappointed) a series of kids get missing and the adults of the town act like nothing's happening. Bill Denbrough(that's right,I remembered his name) looses his brother as well. Billy and other kids in the town(including his friends) start to see th...

Incredibles 2: Is Incredible Too

The incredibles 2 is the sequel to the Incredibles which came out more than 10 years ago!...10 years, can you believe that?. Ever since it came out, fans have long asked for another film and finally they have gotten what they asked for. I loved the first film and I'll say this,if you loved the Incredibles, you'll love this one too but there's a catch, you might not love it as much as the first(depending on how you felt about the first).   The improvement in technology over the past couple of years definitely shows in this film, ultra realistic attention to detail even in the most littlest aspects like cloth fabric all look amazing. I feel like a lot of the new character design deviated from the original film but that's just my opinion I think because I haven't really seen anyone talking about it.  The old characters also got retouched  I guess to look more real(Violet's love interest got changed completely)and captivating for the audience. The origi...
