FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD

The first fantastic beast was truly a surprise to me,I never thought I’d enjoy it as much as I did, especially with it being a Harry Potter(I love Harry Potter) prequel. The titular character Newt Scamander truly held his own as the face of this new franchise which impressed me because of how unique he was from Harry Potter himself. He wasn't some kind of chosen one or extremely special person, he was just a good guy who saw the best in everybeing which I felt made him stand out.
Set many years before the philosopher’s stone, the first film established a lot of cool stuff like the american wizarding world as well as fun new characters so,when they announced they would be a total of five films, I got scared. I mean,I expected a sequel but four sequels? That really felt like a stretch so before I saw this sequel,I kept thinking “do they really have enough story for five movies?” and now that I've seen this film, I feel like they might not.

So Fantastic Beasts:The Crimes Of Grindelwald picks up three months after where the last film ended.  Most of the characters from the last film returned,it kept things familiar and interesting but, it felt like about fourty minutes of this film was just there to stretch things out. I mean for instance, let's talk about the girl Newt obviously had a thing for in the first film;Leta LaStrange who  finally makes her debut in this film. She's shown as a smart, bold witch who never had a sense of belonging.  On paper, this sounds like ingredients for a truly fascinating character but there really isn't anything memorable or fascinating about her which was underwhelming.
I mean, she's related to freaking Bellatrix Lastrange, One of the most(in my opinion)  iconic villains in cinema and fictional literature. So I felt really sad when I realised I wasn't even a tad bit interested whenever I saw her ancestor Leta.  Don't get me wrong the actress did a fine job, it just felt like the character would have been so much more and by the end of the film I felt like her character was utterly wasted.
This film introduced a bunch of new characters and decided to hardly focus on any of them for that long. I mean, this film is sub titled; The Crimes of Grindelwald and he's barely in it at all. Johnny Depp as Grindelwald wasn't in anyway bad but, it felt like he needed more scenes. I know Grindelwald isn't a new character but technically, for most of the first film he was in disguise.

He gives this speech at the end which was meant to be badass and intimidating but his character journey through out the film felt really lackluster due to him barely being in the film and when he was onscreen,he wasn't interesting, he just felt like the wizard Hitler.  They are some scenes where Johnny Depp shows great facial gestures that give Grindelwald's character complexity but, they're always downplayed with proud and boring speeches about wizard supremacy.
He had a really cool scene in the beginning of the film which I liked but other than that, I didn't see him as anything more than just your regular one dimensional villain which is sad because I could really see that they tried really hard to make him complex and interesting.
Still, this film is highly entertaining, I wasn't bored at all because of the fact that it's set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.  Lots of Harry Potter references alone will make you feel satisfied, the musical score is still great, the whole vibe of magic  is still familiar and fun to see but, i still feel like half of this film is just there to pass time and not actually move the narrative at all.
The best parts of this film are in the first and last thirty minutes, everything in the middle feels like a total waste of time.  They are familiar characters here who get rather interesting backstories and there's a big twist at the end that will keep you wanting to see another movie even with the lackluster and long middle part of this film.  Even when it drags, it still manages to be an entertaining film filled with new beasts, old places and characters, new twists and beautiful music so, in my book it's still a solid film to watch and (to an extent)really enjoy.

Happy Death Day (2017)

I don't like horror or the prospect of horror in any movie but this one genuinely was a welcomed surprise. Happy Death Day is that movie you've heard of but you don't know what it's about and you go in to watch it with low expectations. But,guess what? It turned out really good. Happy Death Day is about a college sorority girl who has to relive the day she got killed by a masked person and that day also happens to be her birthday and put it shortly,Happy Death Day uses the concept of the movie "Groundhog Day" but with more extreme extra miles and I have to give it to them,I'm impressed.     The movie starts of with Lory the main protagonist waking up in dorm room of Carter an awkward guy who she assumes she had sex with since she can't really remember what happened the night before because she was hung over. After a very awkward back and forth, she leaves his room and heads home to the sorority house. While she goes there, the movie show...

Collateral Beauty (2016)

I watched this film a day before new year and I loved it. In fact,I almost cried because Will Smith is a pro at what he does and the cast and story are just SO DAMN GOOD. I didn't want to post a review or say anything about this movie because it was a gem to me. So the other day I was thinking about how cool the movie was and I was like "yo,lemme go check out the ratings for this movie...was it Oscar nominated"?. And,Bam! I saw it got a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes..what the hell is wrong with critics? I mean no offense to Americans but sometimes Americans suck!. You people used to be so great but now you just shit on everything for no good reason and you use fancy words to justify your unnecessary hate, why?. You hear that critics? You nitpick about everything and I mean eeeeeveeerrrything. I literally read a review where someone said this film is just "oscar bait"...I know films like this get Oscar nominations but does that mean you'll ignore how good...

I Truly Loved Wonder Woman 1984: An Honest Review

Wonder Woman 1984 is the sequel to 2017's Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins all returning in their respective duties with the first two as actors and Patty as the director once again.   Wonder Woman 1984 has only been out for a few days and within that time has been destroyed critically with people (including a couple of my friends) downright calling it horrible and a strong contender for worst movie of the year. While I'm not one to be swayed by the popular opinion of most critic reviews, seeing a couple of people whose tastes I respect speak ill of the film honestly made me scared and so I avoided watching it until today when I decided that I had to be brave and face my fear!   As seen by the trailers and  other promotional materials, Wonder Woman 1984 is set in the 80's, specifically, 1984, the film has the classic retro feel to it and unapologetically embraces it. Please note that while I will not be spoiling anything major, I may ...

Samurai Champloo: Why Is It So Good?

In the year 2005, the anime community had one of their gems; Samurai Champloo come out. Its well written and set in an extremely lively version of old school (Edo) japan. Its storyline is simple, two extremely skilled yet very different swordsmen Mugen and Jin have fate bring them across a young outspoken lady Fuu who helps them out of a tough spot and insist on them accompany her to find the very vaguely named “samurai who smells of sunflowers”. This serves as the catalyst that carries us on a well voiced, animated, and extremely stylistic adventure across japan towards the course of its 20 plus episode run. Here are some of the reasons I think Samurai Champloo is so enjoyable   1. TONE AND SETTING: One of the reasons it works so well is that even with its fictional story, its grounded in reality without being overly dramatic or serious. Most films, shows and games based off old eras like this usually take themselves super serious and in the process turn out being bla...
