Sex Education

Sex Education is Netflix's latest addition to their list of unique top notch quality shows. Sex Education is a relevant coming of age show that revolves around teenage sexuality and it's complexities. I feel like most movies or shows that try to tackle subject matter like this end up focusing on glorious sex rather than the very common awkwardness that leads up to it. Sex Education is very raw and authentic, I say this because I relate to it based on the fact that I am a pervert and also a pubescent man-baby.
Sixteen Year Old Otis is an awkward teen living with his mother who happens to be a sex therapist.  Otis's best friend Eric is an openly gay boy in school and he's extremely funny and their friendship is true and strong. When The Headmaster's son who's known for being a big prick both literally and figuratively takes sexual enhancement drugs in order to be able to have great pleasure but he actually takes too much and ends up having an erection for a long time.
Stuck in the bathroom toilet, Otis with the help of Maeve; a bad ass Goth with a lot of family baggage and built up emotional walls. Thanks to all the things he picked up from his mother, Otis is able to calm him down and literally talk him out of his boner.  Noticing his "talent", Maeve makes a deal with him to start a sex clinic where they give therapy to students with sexual related problems.
Asides a comedic excellence, this show is actually quite serious in a lot of cases for instance, there's an episode about abortion that is really great.  Not only is it well written, it also tries not to be pro abortion or anti abortion.  Instead, it finds a balance and explain things from its own perspective.  There's also a lot of themes on family, especially relating to teens not being able to truly be who they are in front of their parents as well as not being accepted by their parents.  Just like Sabrina The Teenage Witch, It felt really hard placing a specific time era.
Don't get me wrong, it can easily be said to be set in modern times but, mobile phones aside, it feels very retro-y especially in terms of how the kids dress to school.  There's this whole vibe of it being ancient but not too ancient.  Maybe it's all in my head and maybe it's thanks to the masterful cinematography this show has. I mean, the use of color is so good that you don't even notice it's there.  It's not overly saturated but if you pay attention you can clearly see the change in colors during the course of various scenes.
Why this show is so good is because of how apt it is.  There's hardly any non animated show that tackles teenage sexuality quite like this.  From Masturbation to  fear of Premature Ejaculation and even fear of being sexually attracted, this show gets all the list of things checked properly.  It is a very sexual show and it doesn't shy away from that, from scenes with masturbation to raw sexual intercourse, it shows you everything and more rather than simply making references about sex.
The actors are really good in this, I love Asa Butterfield who plays Otis.  He's really grown a lot since his earlier roles.  Even though he's way more than sixteen, he nails the insecurities and weirdness of being a nerdy sixteen year old so effortlessly that you can literally slap your face at his clumsiness and fear yet you also weirdly understand it.
Besides Otis, Gillian Anderson who plays Otis's sexual therapist mother was amazing from start to finish, her acting is top notch and she'll make you laugh a lot. Honestly there's a ton of hilarious and complex characters on this show, there's a girl who wants to have sex by any means and makes space comic erotica for her own viewing pleasure, isn't that so funny? I really loved watching the show but the problem was with only eight episodes, you'll be longing for more by the time you're done binging.  I honestly have no idea if it has even been renewed for a second season but I really hope it has!
With all that being said, if you like real life comedy sprinkled in with some really great and surprising dramatic moments, you really need to see this show.  It is the perfect show for any sexually open teenager of adult.  All episodes are available on Netflix right now so do not forget to check it out and as always, if you liked this post, leave a comment down below, share and subscribe for updates about my newer posts.

Wreck It Ralph: Ralph Breaks The Internet

Ralph Breaks The Internet is the sequel to Wreck It Ralph which i didn't know i needed. The film starts of six years after the first film with Vanellope and Ralph living their daily lives at the arcade with the only different thing now is the fact that Vanellope is tired of her own game. She wants to get a new exciting experience and so she ’s basically depressed about how repetitive her life is which is basically the struggle of every teenager and yes, she’s pretty much a teenager even though she’s stuck in the age of a child. When Ralph tries to make Vanellope’s game more exciting by creating a driving course, this ultimately leads to the gamer breaking the steering wheel when she can’t control her car due to Vanellnope driving of the controlled course to go to the one Ralph created. Without Cree 1stthe steering wheel, her game gets abandoned and without a game, she has no purpose so Ralph and Vanellope must travel to the internet to get it from E-bay. With such a...

Mowgli:Legend Of The Jungle

Mowgli legend of the jungle is an adaptation of the book "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling which inspired the creation of the Disney classic of the same name.  That said Disney classic got the live action treatment sometimes last year and it got praised for it faithfully stating true to the Disney classic and for its incredibly photorealistic CGI.  Mowgli tells the story of the jungle book again but this time, it isn't based on the Disney film but rather the original source material by Rudyard Kipling.  Disney's the jungle book wasn't a straight up faithful adaptation but it managed to stick to major plot points of the book and this film tries to flesh out those plot points by giving all the characters a realistic backstory that doesn't make characters beside the Man Cub feel like they're only there for plot convenience.  I haven't read book by Rudyard Kipling but I know this film is a more faithful adaptation than the Disney film.   Dire...

Who Would Win? Batman Vs Spiderman

Okay before I start I'd like you all to know I am not being partial in any way at all. I had this argument with my friend Andrea a couple of days back and now I feel like sharing on who I think would win,but I realised they are two perspective 1-choosing a winner based on accomplishment 2-choosing a winner based on powers or strengths 1- this perspective is basically saying "oh look at this let's check out both characters accomplishments",they both have taken down a large amount of enemies ranging from smart villains to dumb ones, they've both faced foes that are big and strong. So it's only reasonable to think Batman would win here, not by a long shot though because Spiderman is a force to be reckoned with. Batman has basically done more important things,he has defeated Superman severally, dodged darkseid's omega beams, outsmarted braniac,I mean the man is a bit fluent in kryptonian and he knows several martial art skills and he's just a human......
