The controversial Netflix show has arrived with another season and I can only say it has only gotten more crazy. As a huge fan of season one, I was initially super hyped with the announcement of season 2 because a lot of things were set up in the finale and a couple of the last few episodes show that the tapes were just “Hannah Baker’s side of the story”. It has been four months since the events of season one and everybody from the tapes as well as those not on it have been seriously affected and it reflects on how they now behave.
Fast forward to last week,I saw the trailer and from the trailer I realized that they might actually draw out the perspectives of the people Hannah mentioned in her tapes and that got me bummed out you know,I thought their perspectives would be like a first episode thing and everything else would be the aftermath of the court trial but man was I so freaking WRONG!. it isn’t like the confessions of the people from tapes are the majority of the episodes,as a matter of fact they only last ten to fifteen minutes but I personally feel like they just cover for obvious lack of ideas but I could end up being very wrong and if I am I will make sure I do not tell you guys!.
Its the exact opposite of that, I have seen three episodes so far and am already bored. Not bored in the sense that it is entertaining or eye catching but rather bored that they’re literally just showing Hannah as a crazy(which is debatable) who hid certain truths from her tapes and had a lot of dark secrets no one else knew about. To summarize it they’re deconstructing Hannah’s character…..from “VICTIM/PROSECUTOR” to “DEFENDANT” and that so far feels like lazy writing. I am not giving it a verdict because I just started and things could change in terms of pacing and story telling if I give it a couple of more episodes.
Talking more about the new season,I am very glad Hannah is back on the show I know she shouldn’t be because of the fact that she’s dead and all but let’s just say I have a massive crush on her(not as massive as Clay’s though)and am always biased when it comes to her especially when having discussions with my friends about her controversial choice to end her own life.
She comes back as the unshakable figment of Clay’s imagination four months after trying to forget about her,she appears at awkward moments such as him trying to have intimacy with his new found girlfriend Skye. She also appears in the other character’s telling of their stories in form of flashbacks which is pretty much the only way of including her on the show after season 1. Sadly Clay seeing her proves he has mental issues and I believe as I progress the later episodes will shed more light on this and make us understand.
Clay from the beginning of this new season tries to hide the fact that he still hasn’t gotten over Hannah’s death and his coping mechanism to that has been Skye. He cares deeply for her and even loves her but it is not nearly as close to what he felt for Hannah and Skye realises that and it breaks her heart and makes her feel insecure. She can’t help but feel jealous of a dead girl and things get worse for her relationship with Clay when he starts seeing Hannah pop up abruptly. So that will probably Clay's arc for this season he has to struggle to know what is real and what isn't.
l INTERMISSION
To those who check my blog out frequently,I apologize again for not posting frequently, I will try to be better and post more,at the moment am working on a deadpool discussion as well as my new opinion on Boku no Hero, the anime I once hated.
SUMMARY
From what I have seen, this season is more mature, and character driven. You can tell it’s bigger and that is due to the response it got from viewers, they have increased their scales and production budget(I assume). in summary it is still quality TV but so far it lacks pacing and focus just three episodes in,hopefully things get better because it’d be sad to see such a talented cast wasted by poor direction.
