Do you like westerns(cowboy films) ? Are you a sci-fi fan? Do you like the Nolan Brothers(Christopher and Jonathan) who have brought you collaborative projects like Inception and Interstellar? Well if you do like all those things, keep reading and if you don't, keep reading... There's a point to this.
Westworld, is a sci-fi, western television series that tackles the question created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Westworld is a very ambitious show that tackles the questions, "what does it mean to be conscious"? and "what it means to be truly human".
In the future, there's a super realistic western park created by a man named Ford and his dead partner Arnold.
They created life like being called hosts and gave them roles to play in a western world. Real human beings come to the park and are given the opportunity to dive into the madness and realness of the place. They can do whatever they want to in the park and that is just a fraction of the fun. If you first see this show,you may not like it because it is a very very serious show and it takes it self seriously so I urge you please stick with it because, when you're hooked on it, you're hooked.
Every host on the park has a storyline which consists of a backstory and behavior, it is their primary drive and it is what they use to interact with visitors. The hosts are unaware that their lives are nothing but an endless loop nor do they know that they are people visiting them. Life where they are is the only life they know, they are oblivious to the fact that they're all just pawns for human entertainment.
So, the hosts are each made to be as real as possible, they can eat, have sex and they even bleed. Their roles in the park vary from Sherrifs, to native Indians and even prostitutes.
The park offers the true western experience and it lets the real human beings who visit it show who they truly are. This show has very very complex and intriguing character, it has an amazing cast and each episode has a reveal that turns your head over. It manages to be consistent and not feel boring(once you get used to it) or poorly paced.
Although, Ford and Arnold created The Park, they couldn't possibly run it without funds so their creation had to be bought by the company Delos while Ford still manages the park. When the Hosts start to do things outside their programming, the thrill on the show begins. You start being intrigued at how Human these hosts actually are and the hosts are very very interesting characters. It turns out that the hosts "malfunctioning" is being caused by somebody working in delos who wants to see these hosts revolt. Now, in the park, they are various visitors who are all seeking for different things. Some just want to kill and have sex while other people are in the game for something much much more deeper(sex pun intended)
With each episode, you begin to see that the various people and hosts on this show are in fact connected and when you finally see this, it finally makes sense. It is in this moment that you appreciate not quitting whenever you felt like it was boring or too long, you finally get to see why its an Emmy award winning show with only just 2 seasons under it's belt.
All in all, westworld is deep sci-fi western show that makes you think about a lot about what life means, it offers excess amounts of thrilling adventure, drama, twists and widely captivating visuals that will keep you glued to your sits once you really get immersed in the world.
